Corporate Investigations, Inc., (CII) is dedicated to protecting your privacy. As a national provider of pre-employment and background screening services, CII is governed by the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act and other relevant laws.

This Privacy Statement covers CII’s website and practices for managing personal information provided by our visitors and clients, and by the applicants or employees for whom background checks are processed. CII shall collect, store, and use all personal information in compliance with applicable laws, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Consent

CII maintains a publicly-accessible website. Individuals browsing CII’s website do so anonymously, and CII gathers personally identifiable information only if an individual chooses to provide this information to us. CII does not sell or rent personal information to third-parties.

By accessing CII’s site, you are consenting to the information collection and use practices described in this Privacy Statement. CII may change this policy from time to time. If changes are made to our Privacy Statement, the revised statement will be posted at this location and the date at the top will be changed. CII encourages you to check the date of our Privacy Statement whenever you visit this site for any updates or changes.

Information Collection and Notification

CII may collect information about you on our publicly-accessible website, including “Personal Information,” which identifies you individually, such as your name and e-mail address, when you submit a form, such as, but not limited to, a request for information. CII may collect additional information if you choose to submit it, including your title, place of employment, business telephone number, mailing and facsimile address, as well as the contents of your questions and/or comments submitted along with this information. In general, CII may use this information to respond to your inquiry and contact you about products that may be of interest to you.

For current or prospective employees of a CII client, please note that by authorizing CII’s client to process a background screening investigation, and by providing your personal information to CII (whether indirectly through CII’s client, or directly through your client-initiated, password-protected access to this website), you are permitting CII to disclose your personal information to our client and to share this information with CII’s subcontractors in accordance with this Privacy Statement, for purposes of enabling CII to prepare a background screening report on you. Personal information that may be gathered about you in connection with a background screening investigation may include, for example, your address history, work history, educational history, criminal history, driver’s license number, social security number, date of birth, and other pertinent information, depending on the requirements of a particular client and application at issue.

Information Sharing or Disclosure Practices

CII does not provide any of your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes. The personal information you provide to the site may be accessed by third parties who help CII operate the site, help CII process transactions, and provide the requested services.  Unless specifically required in order to confirm or obtain out-of country education or employment histories, motor vehicle records or criminal histories, CII does not transfer personal information outside of the United States or its territories.

If you are an employee or prospective employee submitting your information to CII at the request of your employer or prospective employer, you are consenting to share your personal information with your employer or prospective employer, or with an authorized third-party agent or subcontractor in order to help CII provide the product or service that your employer or prospective employer has requested. These third parties will receive only the personal information they need in order to deliver the requested product or service, they will be prohibited from using that information for any other purpose, and they will be required to maintain commercially reasonable security measures to protect the confidentiality and security of that information.

Data Privacy Notice for Candidates Outside the United States

Your potential employer may obtain information about you to verify and investigate your background for pre-employment or employment purposes from third parties, including CII.

Information you have, or will supply, may be disclosed to third parties, including agents or vendors of the above named entities, law enforcement agencies, state or federal agencies, courts, institutions, schools or universities (public or private), information service bureaus, employers, employees or insurance companies to verify and investigate your background.

In accordance with the host nation’s laws and the laws applicable to you, depending on your location, regarding the release of information, you understand that information may be transmitted from any country to the above listed parties located in any country, including countries outside the EU that have a different level of data protection or inadequate data protection laws (as defined by the European Commission) than your country of residence.

For access to the personal data collected or transferred, to your report, or for any other inquiries or complaints, you may contact the employer or CII.  You may choose to withdraw consent regarding the disclosure of your personal information to a third party by contacting the employer or CII.  If you withdraw your consent, your background check (if still in process) will not be completed.  This may affect your employer’s decision related to the purpose for which the background was requested.

Tracking Technology and Cookies

CII uses small data files called “cookies” to collect information about how you use the website and to improve the quality of a visitor’s interaction. Each visitor to the site is identified by an IP address during their visit. This information is used for internal purposes only, and CII does not link your IP address to any personal information unless you have logged onto our website with an account login and password. If you have set your browser to reject cookies, some features of the site may not work properly.

Security

CII is dedicated to securing the personal information you share with us. CII uses commercially reasonable efforts to store and maintain any information submitted through our website in order to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, misuse, alteration or disclosure by unauthorized parties.

The importance of privacy and security is equally reflected in the way CII works. All employees of CII receive a thorough background screening and security training is part of every new employee orientation.

CII’s website may provide links to other third-party websites of CII partner companies. Although CII chooses its business partners carefully, please be aware that those third-party websites are outside of CII’s control and are not covered by this Privacy Policy. CII encourages you to learn about the privacy policies of those companies.
