A day before it was due to expire, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced June 29, 2009, that the Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 Form currently on the USCIS website will continue to be valid for use beyond June 30, 2009.
All U.S. employers are required by law to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all employees, including U.S. citizens, by completing the I-9 form. Employers who hire or continue to employ people knowing that they are not authorized to work in the United States might face criminal and civil penalties.
