With such high rates of competition among job seekers, some have turned to plastic surgery in an attempt to up their odds in obtaining employment. In an article posted on Reuters.com plastic surgeon Stephen Greenberg said, “ Men and women in their 40’s and 50’s are competing with peers 10-15 years younger and employers naturally tend to go to a person who looks fresher and younger, despite who is better qualified.” http://uk.reuters.com/article/burningIssues/idUKTRE5366ZE20090408 Whether or not employers will agree with Mr. Greenberg’s statement, it is a fact that plastic surgeons have seen a surge in both surgical procedures as well as less invasive cosmetic injections. The article also went on to note that in a recent survey conducted by The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, of 756 women surveyed, 73 percent said they believed that appearance and youthful looks play a part in getting hired, promoted or getting new clients, particularly in these challenging economic times.
