CO Senate Passes Proposal Waiving Background Checks by One Vote
A bill exempting concealed weapons permit holders from additional background checks any time a new gun is purchased passed in the Colorado Senate by one vote. Current federal law requires background checks for gun purchases but waives those for concealed weapons permit holders in some states.
Because a background check is conducted on an individual prior to the issuance of a concealed weapons permit, the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Greg Brophy, argued that further checks aren’t warranted when new weapons are purchased.
