CO Senate Passes Proposal Waiving Background Checks by One Vote A bill exempting concealed weapons permit holders from additional background checks any time a new gun is purchased passed in the Colorado Senate by one vote. Current federal law requires background checks for gun purchases but waives those for concealed weapons permit holders in some states. Because a background check is conducted on an individual prior to the issuance of a concealed weapons permit, the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Greg Brophy, argued that further checks aren’t warranted when new weapons are purchased. |

A University of Melbourne study showed that employees who surf the internet for personal reasons at work are more productive than those employees who do not. As of March 2009, there is pending legislature in both the House (Child Protection Improvements Act of 2009) and Senate (The Patient Safety and Abuse Prevention Act) which would require volunteers and employees of youth-serving and long-term care industries to undergo a nationwide criminal background check using the FBI’s fingerprint database. The fingerprint database has been available to school districts, daycare providers and other industries for a number of years, but was not federally mandated. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), was signed into law on February 17, 2009, by President Obama.
